Overview

Experience the calving season of the great wildebeest migration in Southern Serengeti (Ndutu) from January to March – about 8,000 calves are born daily. View cheetahs in action in Ndutu; sometimes, they attempt to climb on the bonnets of safari trucks.

Itinerary

Day 1Arusha - Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park -named after the Tarangire river that runs through it. Tarangire is known for its large herds of elephants-up to six thousand reside in the park. In the dry season, animals congregate along the Tarangire River-the only permanent source of water in the park.

Tarangire is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, wildebeests, zebras, and giraffes.

Enjoy a half-day game drive and picnic lunch in the park. In the evening, depart the park for dinner and overnight stay at a camp or lodge around Tarangire.

Meals: Lunch & Dinner

Day 2Tarangire - Southern Serengeti

After breakfast, depart Tarangire for southern Serengeti, also known as Ndutu. After lunch, head out for an introductory game drive in Ndutu. Later in the evening, drive to your camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3-4Southern Serengeti (Ndutu)

Enjoy two days of game viewing in Ndutu. Most of the migrating herds of wildebeest are found on the short-grass plains of Ndutu from December to April.

Calving takes place between January – March each year; in January, when the rains start falling, the herds begin making their way to the south of the Serengeti. Over half a million wildebeest are born in two to three weeks -as many as 8,000 calves daily.

Apart from wildebeests, Ndutu is also home to other game animals and even big cats-especially cheetahs.

Optional activities: Balloon Safari ($590/person).

Dinner and overnight stay at your camp in Southern Serengeti.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5Southern Serengeti - Central Serengeti

After breakfast, depart for Central Serengeti for a full-day game drive. On this day, you may see lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes, warthogs, and even the endangered black rhino.

After lunch, proceed with game viewing before departing for dinner and overnight stay at your camp in Central Serengeti.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6Central Serengeti - Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast,  go for a final game drive in Central Serengeti. After lunch, drive to the Ngorongoro Crater with more game viewing on the way. Arrive at Ngorongoro Crater in the evening for dinner and overnight stay at your lodge on the crater rim.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 7Ngorongoro Crater - Arusha

Ngorongoro is home to approximately 30,000 animals giving you the best chance of spotting the big five -lions, elephants, the endangered black rhino, buffalos, leopards, and countless other African grazers and predators.

Enjoy a picnic lunch, and then later in the afternoon, drive back to Arusha to catch your flight home.
