A 6-day Kilimanjaro climb on the Rongai route – the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the drier and wilder northern side.

Drive from Arusha to Marangu Gate for registration, then drive 70km to the village of Nale Moru – where your hike begins. From Nale Moru, hike through farmlands, then pine forests before reaching Simba Camp(2626 m). Set camp at Nale Moru for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, trek to Kikelewa Camp. Arrive at Second Cave(3450m) around lunchtime; enjoy your lunch, then continue to Kikelewa Camp(3630m) – where you will set camp for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast at Kikelewa Camp, ascend to Mawenzi Tarn(4310m)- located at the foot of Mawenzi peak. Arrive in time for lunch, then spend the rest of the day relaxing.
You can also go on an acclimatization hike to Mawenzi Volcano with a 200-meter gain in altitude, followed by a descent back to Mawenzi Tarn Camp, where you will have dinner in the evening.

After breakfast, start your hike towards Kibo Hut(4700m). The trek from Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut is long but gentle; it takes you through the dry and barren saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Enjoy your lunch at Kibo Hut, then spend the rest of the day relaxing in preparation for that night’s trek to Uhuru Peak.
Enjoy an early dinner and then get some rest because you will wake up around midnight to commence the last ascent towards Uhuru Peak – the summit of Kilimanjaro.

Distance: ~ 5.5 km ascent and 15 km descent
Time: 6-8 hours ascent to Uhuru Peak and 5-8 hours descent to Horombo Hut

Wake up around midnight, enjoy a light snack, and then begin your trek to the summit – climb to the first checkpoint at Hans Meyer Cave (5200m), then to Gilman’s Point(5715m); from Gilman’s Point, ascend through the glaciers to Uhuru Peak(5895m)- the highest point in Africa.
Take some minutes to enjoy your accomplishment; take as many photos as possible before beginning your descent back to Kibo Hut for a warm meal and some rest before descending further to Horombo Hut – your last stop for the day. Arrive at Horombo Hut late in the afternoon for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, descend through the low alpine zone and rain forests to Mandar Hut; arrive in time for lunch. After lunch, descent to Marangu Gate – meet your driver and depart to Arusha for an afternoon of relaxation at your hotel.
